How to Reset Competition Results Safely

A wrong score, a judge who marked the wrong competition, or a result set that has to be judged again: sooner or later a competition needs to go back to the start. eTalenter does not let you simply move a competition back to Not Started once it has begun. Instead the coordinator uses Reset Results on the Result Dashboard, which shows exactly what will be deleted and asks you to confirm each part. This guide shows how it works, with screenshots from the read-only live demo.

How a competition moves through its statuses

The Result Dashboard (Manage Results → Result Dashboard) lists every competition with its status. The status tabs (marker 2) are Not Started, Yet To Begin, On Progress, Finished, On Review, Results Published and Cancelled. The page carries a note (marker 1): once a competition has progressed past Not Started, reverting it to Not Started is not permitted. That is why a deliberate reset exists.

Step 1: Find the competition on the dashboard

Each competition has a card with its name, age group, stage, number of judges and whether results are published. The card shows its current status (marker 1), a status list to move it forward (marker 2) and an Assign Winners button (marker 3). Use the search box or the age-group tabs to find the one you need.

For a competition that has started, a Reset Results button on the card opens the reset page. It is offered only to the Coordinator, and only on competitions that have started. The read-only demo login does not show this button, so the screenshot below opens the same page directly.

Step 2: Read what will be removed

The Reset Results page names the competition and starts with a warning: you cannot undo this (marker 1). Below it, each part that will change is listed on its own:

  • Judge scores (marker 2): every participant and the score each judge gave, all deleted.
  • Scores for each judging point, Ranks and Score history: deleted too, or shown as “Nothing to remove” if there are none.
  • Judge status (marker 3): each judge is set back to “Allowed to fill” and must enter all scores again.
  • Competition status (marker 4): the status changes to Not Started (for example On Review → Not Started).

A published competition also shows a warning that its results will no longer be marked as published.

Step 3: Tick each box, then delete

Every part that has something to remove has its own box (“I understand that …”). The Delete All Results button (marker 6) stays off until all boxes are ticked, and the page counts them (“3 of 3 boxes ticked”). The What stays box (marker 5) tells you what is left alone: the participants, the judge assignments and the judging points setup. Click Cancel if you are not sure.

After the reset

  • Tell the judges to enter their scores again for that competition.
  • Run the competition through the usual steps again: scoring, review, Assign Winners and publish.
  • If the results were published, publish them again once the new ranks are assigned.

Edge cases

SituationWhat to do
You only need to fix one wrong scoreReset Results works on the whole competition. It deletes every judge score for it and asks the judges to enter all scores again, so use it only when that is acceptable.
You want a record before deletingExport the results first. See how to export competition results to Excel. A reset cannot be undone.
The Reset Results button is missingIt is offered only to the Coordinator, and only on competitions that have started. A Not Started competition has nothing to reset.
The competition was never scoredThe page tells you it has no scores, ranks or history to remove and is already Not Started.
Results were already publishedThe page warns they will no longer be marked as published. Publish again after the new ranks are set.
You are not sure which competitionThe page shows the competition name and age group at the top. Check it before you tick anything, and use Cancel to leave.
