The Sanskrit stream of the Kerala school festival, with 25 items across the UP and HS levels.

Sets up the Samskrithotsavam section of the Kerala school Kalolsavam – two class-based levels, 18 Sanskrit items from Padyam Chollal to Ashtapathi and Koodiyattam, and A/B/C grading – as a stand-alone event or as an add-on alongside the main festival.

Samskrithotsavam is the Sanskrit stream of the Kerala School Kalolsavam, the state’s annual school arts festival. It runs as its own section for pupils who study Sanskrit and is judged separately from the main arts programme. The items are a mix of spoken, written and performed work: reciting and rendering verse, composing in Sanskrit, group singing, and stage pieces such as Nadakam and Koodiyattam.

Entrants are grouped by school class, not by age. Samskritham UP covers classes 5 to 7 and Samskritham HS covers classes 8 to 10; there is no lower-primary or higher-secondary section in this template. Across the two levels the template lists 18 distinct items. Written items – Upanyasarachana, Katharachana, Kavitharachana and Samasyapooranam – are given a 120-minute window with a warning at 119 minutes. Short oral items such as Padyam Chollal, Katha Kathanam and Prabhashanam run to 5 minutes, Chambuprabhashanam to 10, Ashtapathi to 10 and Padakam to 15, while the two team stage items, Nadakam and Koodiyattam, get 30 minutes. Aksharaslokam and Prasnothari carry no fixed time limit.

Most items are individual and open to boys and girls together. Padyam Chollal, Sidharoopocharanam and Ganalapanam at the UP level, and Padakam, Ashtapathi and Ganalapanam at the HS level, are split into separate boys’ and girls’ competitions. Sangha Ganam, Nadakam and Koodiyattam are team entries. Every item is scored out of 100, and for the items where the source manual prints judging criteria the template installs them, 74 criteria rows in all.

Results use the festival’s grading: 80 per cent or more earns an A grade worth 5 points, 70 to 79 per cent a B worth 3, and 60 to 69 per cent a C worth 1. The template also pre-loads a School, House, Class and Division structure so points can roll up as results are entered. It can be installed alone for an event that runs only the Sanskrit section, or alongside the main Kerala Kalolsavam template in the same event.
