Gujarat University Zonal Youth Festival — A Gujarat University Zonal Youth Festival, Zone by Zone

By

Youth Festival

Youth Festival · University

Gujarat University’s Department of Youth Welfare inter-collegiate youth festival across three real zones (Ellisbridge North, Ellisbridge South, Ahmedabad City), with 29 events spanning Music, Dance, Literary, Theatre, Fine Arts and short film.

Sets up an inter-collegiate zonal youth festival in the style of a Gujarat university’s published programme – 29 events across music, dance, literary, theatre and fine arts plus documentary and short film, run in three city zones – so a college or university coordinator starts from a real programme instead of a blank page.

A zonal youth festival is an inter-collegiate arts competition in which colleges are grouped into geographic zones, each zone runs its own festival, and the best entrants go forward to an inter-zonal final. This template reproduces the programme published for the Gujarat University zonal youth festival: 29 events in the families of music, dance, literary events, theatre, fine arts and film. Music runs from classical vocal and classical instrumental solos (percussion and non-percussion are separate events) through light vocal, western vocal and western instrumental solos to Indian and Western group songs and a folk orchestra. Dance has a team folk and tribal item and an individual Indian classical item. The literary and theatre events are Quiz, Elocution, Debate, One Act Play, Skits, Mime and Mimicry.

The fine-arts block is the broadest: On The Spot Painting, Collage, Poster Making, Clay Modeling, Cartooning, Rangoli, Spot Photography, Installation and Mehandi, with Youth Festival Documentary and Short Film closing the list. Twenty of the 29 events are individual entries and nine are team entries (the two group songs, folk orchestra, folk and tribal dance, quiz, debate, one act play, skits and mime). Every event is open to both genders and is marked out of 100.

The three groups in the template are the three zones rather than age bands: Ellisbridge N, Ellisbridge S and Ahmedabad City. Each zone carries the full list of events, so a coordinator can register colleges against their own zone and compare results zone by zone before the inter-zonal final. Eligibility is by enrolment, not by age: entrants are full-time students on a degree, postgraduate degree or diploma course, so each zone uses a representative 17 to 25 age range rather than published age categories.

The published programme does not give performing time limits, group sizes or a marking scheme, so the template leaves time limits unset instead of inventing them and ships the standard First, Second and Third places with rank points of 5, 3 and 1 for an individual event and 10, 5 and 3 for a team event. These add up into a college-wise points table across the festival. Judging criteria are not installed for these events; the panel for each event should agree its own criteria before marking begins.

Where this event comes from

Zonal youth festivals are a long-standing format of Indian university youth welfare programmes, in which a university divides its affiliated colleges into zones and runs a zonal round feeding a final. This template follows one university’s published event list rather than a generic format.

Where this event is run

Gujarat, India, where the university’s youth welfare department runs the festival across three city zones, with roughly 3,200 students competing at zonal level and about 750 advancing to the inter-zonal round. The same zonal structure and event list suit any university, college cluster or student union that wants to run a collegiate festival in zones with a final on top, including the fine-arts and film events that many youth festivals now add alongside music, dance and theatre.
