Irish dancing feis under CLRG rules, with age groups from Under 6 to Senior across reel, jig, hornpipe, set and ceili dances.

Sets up an Irish dancing feis: reel, jigs, hornpipe, traditional and open set dances, ceili and figure dances, entered by age group from Under 6 to Senior, with every adjudicator’s raw mark out of 100 compiled into ranked results.

This template builds an Irish dancing feis (pronounced ‘fesh’), the competition day at which dancers are entered by age group and judged by adjudicators. A coordinator opens an event that already holds the dances, the fifteen age groups and the ranking points, instead of building a syllabus line by line. It suits dance schools, regional dance committees and community festivals that run a one-day or weekend feis.

The ten dances fall into three families. Hard-shoe and soft-shoe solo dances are Reel, Light Jig, Slip Jig, Single Jig, Treble Jig and Hornpipe. Set dances are Traditional Set Dance and Open Set Dance. The two team dances are Ceili Dance and Figure Dance. Solo dances are individual entries; Ceili and Figure Dance are team entries. All are open to both genders.

Age groups run from Under 6 through Under 19, then Senior. A solo competitor enters the group matching their age on the date the rules fix, and the template carries each group with its age range. Under the real rules the progression grade a dancer has earned (beginner, primary, intermediate, open, then the championship levels) is a separate axis from age. This template models the age axis only and does not invent grade bands, so a coordinator who needs grade-based sections should add them as extra groups or separate events.

Marking follows the rule that each adjudicator scores a dancer raw out of 100, and the template uses 100 as the maximum score. Where a championship is judged, the rules call for at least three adjudicators; the template does not force a panel size, so set your own. Places are compiled with 10, 6, 3, 2 and 1 ranking points for first to fifth. To run it, open the Registration Page for entries by dance and age group, add adjudicators, and let tabulation rank each dance and age group. The ten-minute limit and zero fee are working defaults; change them to suit your event.

Where this event comes from

Competitive Irish dancing grew out of the dancing masters and social dances of Ireland and was organised into formal feiseanna with age groups and judged dances during the twentieth century.

Where this event is run

Ireland, where the feis tradition began, and the Irish dance communities of Britain, North America, Australia and continental Europe, where dance schools and regional committees run the same age-group syllabus. It is a poor fit for general dance or talent shows, because the dances here are specific to Irish dancing.
