Cante de las Minas in Spain: flamenco singing grouped by palo, alongside guitar, dance and instrumental competitions.

Sets up a flamenco contest in the style of the mining-song festival of La Union, Spain: six cante groups by palo, guitar, dance, an instrumentalist class and a young singers’ category, with the real prize names already in place.

This template builds a flamenco competition in the style of the long-running mining-song festival held each summer in La Union, in the Murcia region of Spain. A coordinator opens an event that already holds the real disciplines, the age groups and the prize titles, instead of starting from a blank catalogue. It suits any flamenco contest where singers are judged against the traditional song families rather than in one open class.

The template carries ten competition items across four disciplines. Cante is split the way the rules split it: Grupo I covers the mining cantes (Cartageneras, Tarantas, and Murcianas and other mining cantes), Grupo II covers the fandango-derived cantes of Malaga, Granada, Cordoba and Huelva, and Grupo III is divided into A (tonas, siguiriyas, soleares, bulerias por solea, canas, polos, livianas, serranas) and B (bulerias, cantinas, tangos, tientos, peteneras, farrucas, personal fandangos). Alongside them sit Guitarra Flamenca, Baile Flamenco, Instrumentista Flamenco and a Cantaores Jovenes category for singers under 30. Guitarra Flamenca also appears in a second group for ages 16 to 30, used for a youth guitar prize.

Every item is for individual performers aged 16 or over, open to both genders and performed in Spanish. The 10-minute clock and the mark out of 100 are working defaults, because the published rules do not give a point rubric the software could copy; adjust them to your own rules. Six titles are set up as ranks: the Lampara Minera for the top cante prize, the Bordon Minero for guitar, El Desplante for dance, El Filon for the instrumentalist, a special jury prize and the youth guitar prize. Bonus values are record-keeping weights, not part of the festival’s rules.

In the real contest, entry is by photo, CV and video, minimum age is 16 and past top-trophy winners are barred, with a video screening, regional selection rounds, semi-finals and a final. Those stages happen before an event like this one: use the Registration Page to collect entries and videos, set up the judges, and run the final evening’s scoring in the software. The route to the top cante prize, which needs a mining cante plus further cantes drawn from the other groups, is not modelled and is left to your own regulations.

Where this event is run

Spain, where flamenco contests are run by town festivals, peñas and cultural associations, and any organiser running a flamenco or folk-song competition in which singers are judged within song families. It is a poor fit for a general talent show, because every item is a flamenco discipline.
