The charreria championship of Mexico across the nine traditional suertes, with categories from Dientes de Leche up to Mayores.

Sets up a Mexican charreria championship: nine suertes from the horse-control cala to the death-defying paso de la muerte, six categories from Dientes de Leche to Mayores, and a points-based result with no fixed maximum.

This template rebuilds the structure of a national charreria championship from Mexico, so a coordinator opens an event that already carries the real age categories and the nine traditional suertes instead of a blank catalogue. Charreria is the rodeo-like horsemanship tradition of Mexico, and a championship is a sequence of individual feats on horseback or on foot in the ring, each scored by a panel against the written rules of the sport.

The template carries nine competition items, all under On Stage: Cala de Caballo (horse control), Piales en el Lienzo (roping a loose mare by the hind legs), Colas en el Lienzo (pulling a bull down by the tail), Jineteo de Toro (bull riding), Terna en el Ruedo (team roping of a bull), Jineteo de Yegua (bronc riding), Manganas a Pie and Manganas a Caballo (roping a mare’s forelegs on foot and mounted) and El Paso de la Muerte (the mounted transfer onto an unbroken mare). Every item is set up for an individual entry and for male competitors, in Spanish, and each item is open to all six categories.

The six categories follow the published rules. The children’s categories are Dientes de Leche (up to 10), Infantil A (up to 12) and Infantil B (up to 15). Juvenil is for competitors who have not turned and will not turn 18 in the competition year, and the rules fix this by year of birth rather than exact birthday, so check dates of birth carefully when you register entries. Libre is the open category, and Mayores needs a competitor to be at least 50 on the day. Because Libre and Mayores overlap on age, the template allows a competitor in the older range to appear in both, as the sport itself does.

Scoring in charreria is not a mark out of a fixed total. Each suerte earns points, adicionales can add to them and infractions deduct from them, so a competitor’s total is an open-ended sum and a poor run can even finish below zero. The template therefore uses a per-item working maximum of 20 that you should treat as a default to adjust, not a rule: the printed anchors are a complete cala at 20 points and the paso de la muerte at 20 for the first vuelta and 15 for the second, with infractions deducting 2, 4, 6 or 10. The ranks install the common titles Campeon and Subcampeon with bonus points of 10 and 6, which are a convention rather than rules-defined terms. Collect entries through the Registration Page, brief judges on the adicional and infraction tables of the current rulebook, and keep the official scoresheets to hand for the final totals.

Where this event comes from

Charreria is the traditional horsemanship of Mexico, developed on the working haciendas and recognised as a national sport and as part of the country’s cultural heritage.

Where this event is run

Mexico, where charreria is organised through local associations and state and national championships, and in Mexican communities abroad that hold their own charro events. The template follows the national championship format of nine suertes and six age categories. It suits an organiser running a charro competition of any size, but it is not suited to general arts festivals, and the women’s escaramuza competition is a separate event with its own rules and is not part of this template.

Key facts

  • 9 items, all individual entries, all open to the six categories
  • Six categories: Dientes de Leche (to 10), Infantil A (to 12), Infantil B (to 15), Juvenil (under 18 by birth year), Libre and Mayores (50 and over)
  • Totals are open-ended sums of suerte points plus adicionales minus infractions, and can go negative
  • A complete cala de caballo scores 20; the paso de la muerte scores 20 then 15, with infractions of 2, 4, 6 or 10
  • Per-item maximum of 20 in the template is a working default, not a rules figure
  • Campeon and Subcampeon ranks use common usage, with bonus points of 10 and 6

Frequently asked questions

Can I change this template after installing it?

Yes — installing it creates a fully configured, live event, not a locked package. Every age group, competition item, rule and scoring setting can be edited afterwards to match exactly what your event actually needs.

Do I need technical knowledge to set this up?

No. Installing a template does the setup work for you; you only need to review the details (dates, unit or house names) and open registration.
