Every item in a Kerala school Science Fair has an official three-digit item code, and the code changes by class section — the same item name carries a different number at LP, UP, HS and HSS/VHSS level. This is the detail that trips up a school filling in the sub-district entry form for the first time: writing the item name without the matching code, or copying a code from the wrong section. This article sets out the verified code list from the fair’s own official entry form, section by section, plus what a school actually has to fill in and sign before sending it up. The item code list, by section
The code isn’t tied to the item name alone — it’s tied to the item within that section. “Working Model” is item 106 at UP level, 115 at HS level and 126 at HSS/VHSS level. Get the section right first, then the code.
| LP Section | Code | UP Section | Code | HS Section | Code | HSS/VHSS Section | Code |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Collections | 101 | Working Model | 106 | Working Model | 115 | Working Model | 126 |
| Charts | 102 | Still Model | 107 | Still Model | 116 | Still Model | 127 |
| Simple Experiment | 103 | Research Type Project | 108 | Research Type Project | 117 | Research Type Project | 128 |
| Improvised Experiment | 109 | Improvised Experiment | 118 | Improvised Experiment | 129 | ||
| Quiz | 110 | Quiz | 119 | Quiz | 130 | ||
| Teaching Aid | 111 | Talent Search Exam | 120 | Teaching Aid | 131 | ||
| Teaching Project | 112 | Teaching Aid | 121 | Teaching Project | 132 | ||
| Teaching Project | 122 | ||||||
| Science Magazine | 123 | ||||||
| Science Drama | 124 |
Two patterns worth noticing. First, the item set grows with the section — LP has only three items, UP adds Quiz/Teaching Aid/Teaching Project, HS adds Talent Search Exam/Science Magazine/Science Drama on top of that. A school copying the HS item list down to an LP entry will list items that section can’t actually enter. Second, Teaching Aid and Teaching Project appear in every section from UP upward, but Teaching Aid is a teachers’ item, not a student one — worth double-checking locally, since it’s easy to open registration for it by mistake when working from a generic list rather than the section’s own form.
What the entry form actually asks for
Beyond the item code table, the official sub-district entry form collects, per school: the school name and code, a count of participating boys, girls and the total, and the number of escorting teachers. For each item entered, it asks for the exhibit name, the participants’ names in block letters, their class, gender and a remarks column. It closes with the escorting teacher’s name, designation, mobile number and signature, and the head of institution’s name and signature. None of this is unusual for a competition entry form — but a form with ten items across four sections, each needing exhibit names and participant details filled in by hand, is exactly the kind of paperwork that benefits from being filled in once in a system rather than copied by hand from a school-level results sheet.
Keep your own item codes consistent from school level up
If you’re running your own school-level Science Fair before the sub-district round, there’s a practical reason to mirror this code list rather than invent your own: a chest number or item reference that doesn’t match the code your sub-district entry form expects means retyping everything from scratch when the time comes to fill that form in. Setting up your school fair with the same item names and the same section structure (LP/UP/HS/HSS&VHSS) means the sub-district entry is a direct copy of your own finalised results, not a second data-entry exercise.

Running your Science Fair entries on eTalenter
eTalenter lets you set up each section’s item list — with your own item codes, if you want them to match the official ones — and collects exhibit names, participant details and escort teacher information once, correctly, instead of on paper that gets retyped at every stage. Results, grades and the qualifying shortlist for the next round come straight out of the system. See the online registration page for how student and team details are collected, and judge scoring and tabulation for how exhibit-and-viva items like Working Model or Research Type Project get scored and ranked.
You can see the setup without signing up. Open a live demo and log in as a demo coordinator or judge — it’s read-only, so nothing you click changes a real event.
Frequently asked questions
Is the item code the same for “Working Model” at every level?
No. The item code is specific to the section. Working Model is 106 at UP level, 115 at HS level and 126 at HSS/VHSS level — the item name repeats across sections but the code does not.
Does the LP section enter a Quiz?
No. The LP section’s item list is Collections, Charts and Simple Experiment only. Quiz, Teaching Aid and Teaching Project start from the UP section.
Who is Teaching Aid actually for?
It’s a teachers’ item, not a student competition, even though it appears on the same entry form alongside student items. Check your current year’s form and circular before entering a student for it.
