Karnataka Department of School Education’s school talent festival (cluster to block, district and state): recitation and speech in 8 languages, religious recitation, songs, fancy dress, storytelling, drawing, clay modelling, essay, mimicry, Bharatanatyam, debate, rangoli, ghazal, plus team folk dance, quiz and qawwali for classes 1-12.

Sets up a Karnataka style school talent festival: three class bands (classes 1-4, 5-7 and 8-12), recitation and speech in eight languages, songs, fancy dress, storytelling, drawing, clay modelling, essay, mimicry, Bharatanatyam, debate and rangoli, plus team folk dance, quiz and qawwali for classes 8-12.

This template rebuilds the school talent festival of Karnataka, a state-wide programme for government, aided and unaided schools that is staged in steps from school to cluster, block, district and state, with the winner of each item moving up. A coordinator opens an event that already carries the class bands, the item list and the group structure, instead of a blank catalogue. It suits a school, a cluster or a district that wants to run a Kannada-medium or multilingual talent day for pupils of classes 1 to 12, and it adapts to any school festival that groups pupils by class rather than by age.

Pupils compete in three class bands: classes 1-4, classes 5-7 and classes 8-12. The younger bands carry a shorter list of item kinds, while classes 8-12 carry the fullest set of individual items. The list covers recitation and speech (run once per language and installed as one item with an entry for each language the platform offers: English, Kannada, Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu, Marathi, Telugu and Tamil), patriotic, devotional, folk and light songs, action song, fancy dress, storytelling, drawing, clay modelling, essay writing, impromptu speech, poetry reading, mimicry, Bharatanatyam, debate, rangoli and ghazal. Item names are given in English with the Kannada original in brackets. Classes 8-12 also have a separate team group for folk dance, quiz and qawwali.

Boys and girls compete together in every item. The first three places are recorded for each item, but the source prints no points for places and no marking tables, only the aspects judges watch, such as melody, rhythm and expression. The template therefore installs places with zero points and no judging criteria, so a coordinator should add a marking sheet (for example out of 100) before the day. Time limits are set where they are printed: for example 3 to 5 minutes for most performance items, 2 hours for drawing, 1 hour 30 minutes for clay modelling and 1 hour for essay writing. Rangoli, ghazal, poetry reading, impromptu speech for classes 8-12 and the team items have no readable limit, so none is set.

Some rules in the source cannot be stored by the platform and are left for the coordinator to apply: each pupil may enter at most two individual items and one team item, an item with fewer than three pupils or teams is cancelled at that stage, team sizes, stage dates and the number of winners from each team item. The ages attached to each band (6-9, 10-12 and 13-17) are an eTalenter mapping from class to age, because the rules give classes only. Use the Registration Page to collect entries, check each pupil’s class before placing them in a band, and consult your own circular for yearly changes.

Where this event comes from

The festival has run in Karnataka since 2002 as the state school education system’s talent programme, and this template follows the 2024-25 rules, adding time limits from a 2025-26 district memo.

Where this event is run

Karnataka, India, in government, aided and unaided schools, with the competition moving from school to cluster, block, district and state stages. The structure suits any organiser running a class-banded school talent festival in several languages. It is less suited to a festival that needs a long list of art forms in the middle school years, or one that separates boys and girls.
