A charity solo dance competition handbook (2026 edition): solo sections in 12 styles (classical, demi character, neo classical, lyrical, contemporary, jazz, hip hop, song and dance, song and tap, voiceover, musical theatre and tap) across seven age divisions from Under 6 to Open Age, plus a Champion Dancer section in every division.

A ready-made solo dance competition for studios and charity events, with twelve styles from classical to tap and voiceover, seven age divisions and a Champion Dancer final in every division, set up in minutes.

This template models a charity dance competition for soloists, built from the organiser’s own 2026 handbook for a two-day event in New South Wales, Australia. A dancer enters one or more of the printed sections, performs a solo routine and is placed against others in the same age division. Handbooks change from year to year, so check the current one before reusing dates, ages or entry rules.

There are twelve solo sections, grouped by technique. Classical technique holds Classical, Demi Character and Neo Classical. Modern technique holds Lyrical and Contemporary. Jazz technique holds Jazz and Hip Hop. Theatrical technique holds Song and Dance, Song and Tap, Voiceover and Musical Theatre, with Tap alongside them. Voiceover is the one section that is not a dance, so a studio running this template should plan a quiet performance space for it. Dancers may enter any of the sections, and every age division runs the same twelve.

Competitors are grouped by age, taken as at 1 January of the competition year: Under 6, Under 8, Under 10, Under 12, Under 14, Under 16 and Open Age for sixteen and over. A dancer must enter the division that matches their age and may not enter a younger one. They may enter an older division, but then cannot go back to their own or a younger division in that discipline. The committee may combine divisions when entries are low, which is why the template lists every section in every division and leaves the coordinator to remove whatever the day does not run.

Each division also has a separate Champion Dancer section. A dancer enters it in addition to a solo section of their own age group, and performs either a dance already shown in the competition or a new one. The judges consider overall performance, stage presence and performance quality, and the winner receives a sash, crown and trophy while every other entrant receives a participation pin. The handbook prints no time limits, judging criteria or marks, and no placings or points, so the template installs the sections and age divisions only and each class is left for the coordinator to configure.

Where this event is run

Solo dance competitions that split entries by technique and by age division are a staple of the dance circuit in Australia, where studios send soloists to weekend competitions run by community groups and charities. The same style-by-style and age-by-age format, often with a headline final for the strongest soloists, is used by dance competitions and eisteddfods in other countries. This template follows one organiser’s edition and suits any dance school, studio group or fundraising committee running solo-only sections.

Key facts

  • Twelve solo sections: Classical, Demi Character, Neo Classical, Lyrical, Contemporary, Jazz, Hip Hop, Song and Dance, Song and Tap, Voiceover, Musical Theatre and Tap
  • Seven solo age divisions, taken as at 1 January: Under 6, Under 8, Under 10, Under 12, Under 14, Under 16 and Open Age (16 and over)
  • A Champion Dancer section in every division, entered alongside a solo section with a repeat or new performance; the winner receives a sash, crown and trophy
  • A dancer must enter the division for their age and cannot enter a younger one; moving up to an older division means not returning to their own
  • Solo entries only: the handbook prints no duo, trio or group sections
  • No time limits, judging criteria or marks are printed, so none are installed and Under 6 is installed as ages 3 to 5

Do I need technical knowledge to set this up?

No. Installing a template does the setup work for you; you only need to review the details (dates, unit or house names) and open registration.
