Academic & Youth Fair · Learner Festival
The City Schools Division of Cabuyao’s annual junior high Festival of Talents as run in 2017: PopQuiz, Essay Writing, Poster Making and Jingle Writing and Singing, grouped by grade level, with the printed 100-mark criteria for the three on-the-spot skills contests.
A ready-made one-day school festival for junior high learners in four contests: a timed quiz scored by correct answers, and three on-the-spot skills contests (essay, poster, jingle) judged on printed 100-mark criteria.
This template models a one-day Festival of Talents for junior high school learners in Cabuyao, in the Philippines. The edition it is built from was held on 19 September 2017 from 8:00 in the morning to 5:00 in the afternoon, for public and private junior high schools, and was described as an annual activity since 2012. It is the only edition the template draws on, so treat dates, venues and entry rules as a starting point and check the current year’s memorandum before reusing any of them.
Four contests are modelled. PopQuiz, Essay Writing and Jingle Writing and Singing are for Grade 10 learners; Poster Making is open to Grades 7 to 10. Each school sends one contestant per contest, and a teacher-coach is preferred for each. Because entry is by grade level rather than by birth date, the template has two groups restricted by class: Grade 10 (modelled as age 15) and Grade 7-10 (modelled as ages 12 to 15). A Grade 10 learner can also enter Poster Making through the wider group, so Grade 10 is marked as an allowed overlap.
PopQuiz is scored by correct answers, not by a panel. It has 20 questions: 6 easy at 1 point, 7 average at 2 points and 7 difficult at 3 points, so the highest possible score is 41. Each question gets 10 seconds, or 30 seconds when a computation is needed. The winner is the highest cumulative score, and a tie is broken by a further question from the difficult category. No judging criteria are installed for it.
The other three are on-the-spot skills contests with a theme announced on the day, each marked out of 100. Essay Writing is 800 to 1,000 words in English: Presentation and Style 40, and Form, Content and Insight 60 (Accuracy 20, Fairness 20, Methodology 20). Poster Making is scored on Creativity and Presentation 50, Originality 30 and Relevance to the Theme 20. Jingle Writing and Singing is an original composition with English lyrics performed in two to three minutes, scored on Lyrics 50 (relevance to the theme), Musicality 30 and Originality 20. The source prints no placings, points or prizes, so fees are installed as zero and no grades or ranks are set; agree your own placings before the day.
Some rules in the source have no field in the platform and are not modelled: automatic disqualification for any material or electronic device, wearing the school uniform with ID, registering 30 minutes before the contest, colour-coded writing sheets, how answers may be crossed out, oral protests being allowed only through the official coach, and contestants bringing their own poster materials (a quarter-size illustration board and wax crayons). Apply them at registration and on the day.
Where this event is run
School-division festivals that pair a quiz with on-the-spot writing, art and music contests are a familiar format in the Philippines, where each school sends one learner per contest and winners may move on to higher levels of competition. This template follows one division’s junior high edition from 2017. Learner festivals elsewhere combine a quiz, an essay, a poster and a song in the same way, so the structure will suit any school district that wants one contestant per school across a mix of written, visual and musical contests.
