Many events want a different look for each age group: a green ID card for Juniors, a blue one for Seniors, or a gold certificate for the top group. In eTalenter you do this with design profiles. A profile is one saved design that carries its own background, its own age group and its own look, so you make one profile per age group and print each group with its own design. This guide shows how, with screenshots from the read-only live demo. The same steps work for ID cards and for rank and participation certificates, because they share one designer.
What a profile is
A profile is a named saved design. It remembers the background, the group it applies to, the look (fonts, spacing, colours) and any block you restyled. Every change is saved automatically into the profile you have open, so there is no Save button and nothing to lose when you switch. When you have no profile yet, your work is saved as a profile called Default, and you can start another one at any time to keep a second design side by side.
Step 1: Pick the group
Open Print Participants → ID Cards (for certificates, open Rank Certificates or Participation Certificates). Click Options (marker 1) and choose the age group in the Group list (marker 2). The profile you have open now applies to that group: the demo confirms it with the message “Default: now applies to Cat-II”.

Step 2: Pick the background
Open the Image tab (marker 1). It lists ready-made backgrounds, and you can narrow them with the All, Dark and Light buttons. Click one (marker 2) and it is applied to the cards of the open profile at once. In the screenshot the card preview now shows the chosen background and the group name (marker 3). If you also want a different look, not only a different background, open the Looks tab and pick one. Backgrounds and looks are independent, so any look works with any background.

Step 2b: Use your own artwork instead
If the group has its own artwork, such as a school or club design, click Upload background on the Image tab. The Custom card designs window opens. It tells you the best size for your layout (marker 1); for the layout in the screenshot that is 341 × 494 px, and about three times that, 1023 × 1482 px, gives a sharp print. Click a tile to upload the front design and, if you want, the back design (marker 2). Leave the back empty to reuse the front image on both sides. Give the design a name, choose the text colour that suits it (for example white text on dark artwork) and click Add design (marker 3).

Step 3: Save it as its own profile
Open the Profiles tab and click New profile. Give it a clear name, for example the group name (marker 1). The name box suggests ready names such as “Individual Sub Junior Profile”, but you can type anything. Under Start from (marker 2) choose Blank, which keeps the background and look on screen with nothing restyled, or A copy of one of your existing profiles. A copy is the quickest way to make a second group: copy the first group’s profile, then change its group and its background.

Step 4: Repeat for each group, then print
For the next group, create another profile, pick that group in Options and choose its background. Each profile in the list shows its name, group and background. To print a group, click its profile in the list to open it, then use Load Candidates and Print or Download. Print a single card on ordinary paper first and check the text against the background (see our bulk certificate printing guide).
Edge cases
| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| You want the same design for every group | Keep one profile and leave the group as it is. You only need more profiles when groups differ. |
| Two groups share a background but differ in colour or text | Make a copy of the first profile (Start from: A copy of), then change what differs. |
| Your artwork looks cropped | Uploaded artwork is scaled to fill the card and centred, so a different shape loses its edges. Use the size the window recommends. |
| You change Cards per row or Rows per page | The card size changes, so the best artwork size changes too. Check the size in the upload window again. |
| Dark artwork and dark text | Choose a matching text colour when you upload, such as white text for dark artwork, and test print. |
| You also print certificates | Rank and participation certificates are separate designs with their own profiles. Set up each one. |
| You use a school or club logo on the artwork | Put it in the uploaded artwork, or change the logo in Options under Heading and branding. |
Frequently asked questions
Can each age group have a different ID card background?
Yes. Make one design profile per age group, each with its own group and background, and print each group with its own profile.
Can I upload my own background?
Yes. Use Upload background on the Image tab, add a front design and optionally a back design, name it and click Add design.
Does the same work for certificates?
Yes. Rank and participation certificates use the same designer with the same Looks, Image, Profiles and Style tabs.
