Charts on Print Reports: See Your Numbers at a Glance

A long printed list is hard to read at a glance. A few charts at the top of the page fix that. eTalenter print reports now show number tiles and charts right under the event header. In one look you see how many candidates there are, which district has the most entries, how many entries each age group has and, on the participants report, how much fee has come in. You can hide the charts with one tick box when you do not want them. This guide shows what each report shows, how to hide the charts and what to know before you print.

What the charts show

Every report shows the charts that make sense for its data. The charts always follow the filters you have picked, so a report filtered to one age group shows the numbers for that age group only.

  • All Results: number tiles (results listed, competitions, graded), entries per competition, grades and ranks.
  • Judges Score: entries per competition.
  • Membership-wise participants: number tiles, candidates per age group, gender, and two charts by your top level, such as district: candidates and participations. Only the top level is charted, so the charts stay short even when you have hundreds of local units.
  • Participants-wise competitions: number tiles (entries, competitions, participants), entries per competition, age group, and candidates and participations by your top level.
  • Competition candidates: number tiles, candidates per competition, age group, gender, and candidates and participations by your top level. Competitions are counted by name, so one competition held for several age groups is one bar.
  • Competition candidates by stage: only the stage charts, candidates per stage and competitions per stage, so nothing repeats the by-competition report.
  • Judges Assignment: assignments per judge and a scoring progress chart (filled and pending). See how to print a judges assignment report.

Each chart shows every item, with no “Other” group, and the names are written in full. The charts use fixed, print-safe colours, so they stay readable on a black-and-white printer.

Candidates and participations are different

The two charts by your top level answer two different questions. Candidates counts each person once, so you see how many people each district sent. Participations counts every competition entry, so a candidate who enters four competitions adds four. A district with few candidates can still have many participations, and the two charts side by side show it.

Fee charts on the participants report

On the Membership-wise report, if you tick the Fees column, the tiles add Total Fees and Average Fee per Candidate. Two more charts appear: fees by your top level as columns, and fees by age group as a pie chart with the total in the middle. If you do not show the Fees column, the fee tiles and fee charts do not appear. Fees are visible to the event coordinator only.

One small point: the fee chart adds up the fee on each candidate row. If your event also adds a flat fee for each top-level unit, that flat fee is in the Total Fees tile but not in the chart columns.

How to hide the charts

Open any of these print pages. In the options bar at the top, next to Allow Organization Logo, Allow Event Logo, Allow Event Name and Allow Horizontal Line, there is a new tick box: Show Charts. It is ticked by default. Untick it and the charts disappear from the page, so the report starts with the tables right after the header. Tick it again to bring them back. Your choice is saved with the other options of that report, and the options bar works the same way on a phone and on the web.

The charts appear on the page and when you use Print. They are not added to the file you get from Download, so a downloaded PDF stays a clean list. If you want the charts on paper, use Print. If you want to save the page as a PDF with charts, choose “Save as PDF” in the browser’s print window.

On the Competition Candidates reports, the charts take their own page. They print on a sheet of their own, with the event header, and the competition tables start on the next page. That way the charts never push a table off its page.

What the charts do not do

  • They are for reading the report. You cannot click a chart or change what it shows. To change the numbers, change the filters.
  • The Judges Score Card print has no charts, because it is a blank form for judges to fill in.
  • Charts do not appear in the Download file or in the Excel export.

Frequently asked questions

Can I print a report without the charts?

Yes. Untick Show Charts in the options bar before you print.

Why does the chart show only my top level and not every local unit?

A chart with hundreds of small units cannot be read on paper. The top level gives you the overview, and the tables below still list every unit.

Do the charts change when I filter the report?

Yes. They count only the rows the report shows after the filters.
