The Sri Lanka Festival of Music, Dance & Speech’s Eastern (Oriental) Dance discipline: 15 real dance styles (Sri Lankan Folk, Kandyan, Bharatha Natyam, Indian Kathak, Sabaragamuwa and more) with real Solo and Troupe age divisions, built from IIMSD’s own official 2026 dance syllabus and fee schedule.

Sets up an Eastern dance festival in the style of Sri Lanka’s national circuit: Sri Lankan Folk, Kandyan, Bharatha Natyam, Kathak and more, each with Solo and Troupe classes, four age brackets and a time limit for every class.

This template rebuilds the structure of an Eastern (Oriental) dance discipline as run at a Sri Lankan festival of music, dance and speech, so a coordinator opens an event that already carries the real dance styles, age brackets and time limits instead of an empty catalogue. It suits a dance academy, a cultural society or a school that wants a single festival covering classical, folk and contemporary Eastern styles.

There are 15 items. The traditional styles are Sri Lankan Folk, Kandyan, Sabaragamuwa Dance, Low Country Traditional, Bharatha Natyam, Indian Kathak and Indian Folk. Five of them also have a Creative class, where the dancer or troupe works to drum music with songs: Sri Lankan, Kandyan, Bharatha Natyam, Indian Folk and Low Country Creative. Dance to Song, Eastern Free Style and School Drill to Music complete the list. Each style is a separate class with its own rules, so an entrant picks the one that matches their training rather than a generic dance slot.

Entries are Solo or Troupe. A solo dancer gets 2 minutes up to age 14 and 3 minutes from age 15. Troupes need five or more performers and carry age-banded time limits of 2, 2, 3 and 4 minutes across the four brackets (3-6, 7-9, 10-14 and 15+). School Drill to Music is Troupe-only, with at most 20 performers. Because several Creative and traditional classes sit side by side, set clear entry guidance so a dancer is not entered in the wrong one.

The source publishes no numeric scoring breakdown. Adjudicators award a named certificate scale from Participation up to Gold Star, so the template uses a nominal 10-point judge scale and leaves grades and ranks empty. Entry fees are installed at zero so each organiser sets their own. Duo, Trio and Quartet variants exist in the real festival but are not modelled here; the template keeps to true Solo and Troupe entries.

Where this event is run

Sri Lanka, as a national-level festival discipline for Eastern dance with separate Solo and Troupe classes from early childhood to adult. The template suits any organiser wanting the same layout: dance schools, cultural societies, school clusters or community arts groups. It is less suited to a single-style competition, where one of the other dance templates is a closer fit.
